Recently Discord and Xbox have partnered up to give users the ability to use Discord voice chat on their Xbox Series X/S console
Firstly, I just want to go over what to expect after your Discord account and Xbox console have been linked. You will be able to join a Discord server voice channel through your Xbox. You will be able to manage users in the voice channel (change volume of individual users, mute users, and report users). You will be able to pass Discord voice chats over from another device (like your phone or computer). You will not be able to use text chat on Xbox and you also can’t directly call a user through your console (although you can pass a direct call over to your Xbox from your phone or computer). With that out of the way lets get right into the tutorial.
Step 1: If your Xbox is running the newest version of the system software, then head up to your settings, and go to General>Account>Linked Social Accounts.
Step 2: In Linked Social Accounts, there will be an option to link your Discord account. Select it and you will get a screen with a few different options for connecting your account. The method Xbox recommends is using the Xbox app (which you are welcome to use) however, I find it easier to select Continue on Console, which will bring up a screen where we can scan a QR code (you can also sign in the old fashioned way using email and password on this screen). If you choose this method, open the Discord app, go to User, Scan QR code and scan it. Back on the Xbox Series X, agree to the terms on the screen and allow Xbox to use your account. And now your accounts are linked!
Step 3: Now that our console and Discord accounts are linked, we can join a Discord voice channel. From our home screen, press the Xbox button on your controller. Head over to the parties and chats, and go down and select “Join a Discord Voice Channel.” Choose the server, and then select the voice channel you want to join.
Step 4: Once we are in a voice channel we do a few things. Going from top to bottom we can:
Change device settings – This allows us to change the audio hardware being used just like in a normal Xbox party.
Enable overlay – This option allows us to enable an on screen overlay of the server information. We can also pick where on the screen the overlay appears.
Options – This includes mute mic, deafen audio, switch from Discord server to Xbox voice chat, enable noise suppression, and more audio options
Disconnect – Leave the voice channel
If you select an individual user you can also mute them or change their volume.
That pretty much covers connecting your account and joining a voice channel on Xbox. I also have an article on how to pass audio over from another device to your Xbox so if you want to know how get a direct user call on your Xbox click here.
